Despite outshooting Dimond-West 24-14, the combined Chugiak-Eagle River girls hockey team found themselves on the short side of the scoreboard in a 2-0 decision in the Cook Inlet Conference Tournament championship game Friday at the McDonald Recreation Center.
Even the home ice advantage and a large, supportive fan base couldn't help the local squad against West High senior goalie Emi Williams, who elevated her game to an incredible level, helping fourth-ranked Dimond-West to a 2-1 upset win over top-seeded Service-East two days earlier following seven overtimes.
