In a game of yards, the Chugiak Mustangs girls varsity flag football team came up a few feet short, losing to Bartlett 19-18 in Saturday's Cook Inlet Conference title game at the Anchorage Football Stadium.
Chugiak's tenuous 12-6 lead held for much of the second half until late in the fourth, when Bartlett quarterback Kiara Honore, who had scored on a 70-yard run in the first quarter, scored again in the closing minutes. That ended the regulation game in a tie, 12-12, sending the first-ever title game into overtime.
